Baker Roshi sagt, Kunst spricht die Sprache von STARMIND.

Dieses Wochenende bietet Dir Gelegenheit, unter Anleitung von Sally B Baker und Madalena Parreira in Dein künstlerisch-kreatives Feld einzutauchen und seine Wirkweise in verschiedenen Ansätzen des Beobachtens und Darstellens zu erforschen. Mittels einer Vielfalt von Strategien, Techniken und Materialien wird die Ideen- und Formfindung auf Papier angeregt, wobei immer im Vordergrund steht, dass Du in Deinem eigenen Tempo auf die Situation und die gegebenen Optionen antworten kannst. Zentatsu Richard Baker Roshi wird das Seminar mit Impulsvorträgen über "Zen und Kunst" und "Die Kunst der Zen Praxis" ergänzen.

Du wirst ermutigt, Dich über die künstlerische Aktivität und im Prozess des Zeichnens neu zu verorten – zu entschleunigen, ge-wahr-zu-sein, jenseits von Worten und Benennen – einfach zu sehen. Indem Du den Übungen und Techniken mit einem unvoreingenommenen Geist, aufmerksamer Neugier und der Bereitschaft zu spielerischer Exploration begegnest, wirst Du herausfinden können, welche Möglichkeiten jedes Medium bietet und welches visuelle Vokabular Du für Dich definieren und nutzen kannst, um Deine Erfahrungen zu dokumentieren.

Teilnehmer*innen arbeiten aus ihrer direkten Beobachtung von Objekten, Räumen, der Natur und der menschlichen Figur. Dabei experimentieren wir mit der gewohnten Sicht über die Augen, sowie dem Miteinbeziehen von Berührung und dann deren Abwesenheit. Zusätzlich stehen die eigene Vorstellungskraft, das Werk von Künstler*innen und Bewegungen zur Verfügung.

Materialien und Techniken umfassen Aquarellmalerei und grundlegende Zeichentechniken, sowie Monotypie (Drucktechnik zur Herstellung von Unikaten, gemalt wird auf eine glatte Oberfläche) und Cyanotypie (fotographisches Edeldruckverfahren mit blauen Farbtönen).

Diese Erkundungen des Zeichnens und Markierens finden innerhalb des klösterlichen Praxisfeldes auf dem Campus im ZBZS statt. Die individuelle und kontinuierliche Praxis einer*s jeder*s Einzelnen gestaltet diesen Prozess maßgeblich mit.

Das Seminar findet in englischer Sprache statt und wird durch die beiden Künstlerinnen Sally B Baker und Madalena Parreira (Lebensläufe siehe unten) geleitet. Sally und Madalena sind eng befreundet und arbeiten und lehren seit 2005 immer wieder gemeinsam.

 

Sally B Baker ist bildende Künstlerin und Lehrerin. Sie lebt und arbeitet pendelnd zwischen Lissabon, Portugal und der San Francisco Bay Area. Sally wuchs im San Francisco Zen Center und auf der Green Gulch Farm in Marin County, Kalifornien, auf. Sie studierte an der Brown University und der Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island, an der School of Visual Arts in New York City und am Ar.Co (Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual) in Lissabon. Derzeit unterrichtet sie Kunst an der Athenian School in Kalifornien.

Sally entwickelt ihre eigene Praxis in Zeichnung, Malerei und Druckgrafik. Ihre Arbeiten sind unter www.sallybbaker.com und auf Instagram @sallybbaker zu sehen.

Madalena Parreira ist bildende Künstlerin und Lehrerin und lebt in Lissabon, Portugal. Madalena wuchs in Lissabon und London auf und studierte Kunst am Ar.Co (Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual) in Lissabon und am Camberwell College of Art, University of the Arts, London. Zu Zeit leitet sie die Abteilung für Druckgrafik und ist Co-Leiterin der Abteilung für Illustration und Comics am Ar.Co (Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual).

  Seminar Description:  Baker Roshi says: Art speaks the language of  STARMIND.

This weekend art program, led by Sally B Baker and Madalena Parreira, offers approaches to observing, exploring and depicting. Using a variety of strategies, techniques and materials, students will engage in guided practice leading to the discovery and application of visual forms and ideas on paper. They will be challenged with a range of prompts, media and scale, allowing each student to respond at their own pace. Zentatsu Richard Baker Roshi will complement the seminar with lectures on "Zen and Art" and "The Art of Zen Practice."

Students will be encouraged to locate themselves through drawing as a means of slowing down and noticing without naming - to just see.  By approaching the exercises and techniques with an open mind and willingness to play with unbiased curiosity and attention, students will discover what is possible in each medium and define and use this visual vocabulary to record their experience. Students will work from direct observation (through, and in the absence of, sight and touch) of objects, spaces, nature and the human figure, while also drawing on their own imaginations and the work of artists and movements. Materials and techniques will include watercolor and basic drawing media along with monotype and cyanotype processes.

These explorations in drawing and mark-making will be seated in the monastic practice of the ZBZS Dharma Sangha Campus in the Black Forest and will be guided by the ongoing practice of each individual.

This course is taught in English by Sally B Baker and Madalena Parreira (bios below). Sally and Madalena are close friends and have worked and taught together on and off since 2005. They will be leading the weekend art program together. Program Thursday:

• Meals: Silent breakfast in a ritualized Oryoki style (a mindfulness ritual for meals), otherwise communal meals with a buffet.
• Nutrition: Vegan-vegetarian and largely organic-regional.

• Choice of single, double, or shared rooms (with a private sink or shared bathroom) or in a studio (with a private bathroom).

Sally B Baker is a visual artist and teacher who lives and works between Lisbon, Portugal and the San Francisco Bay Area. Sally grew up at the San Francisco Zen Center and Green Gulch Farm in Marin County, California and studied at Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island, the School of Visual Arts in New York City and Ar.Co (Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual) in Lisbon. Madalena Parreira is a visual artist and teacher based in Lisbon, Portugal. Madalena was raised in Lisbon and London and studied art at Ar.Co (Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual) in Lisbon and Camberwell College of Art, University of the Arts, London. She currently directs the printmaking department and co-directs the Illustration and Comics department at Ar.Co (Centro de Arte e Comunicação Visual), Madalena also develops her own practice in the areas of printmaking, ceramics and set-design.
